About Dr. Melander

Matthew Melander, DO, is St. Charles County’s premier fellowship-trained, board-certified sports medicine physician and orthopedic surgeon. With board certifications in both orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, Dr. Melander treats people of all ages and activity levels at his practice, which has two convenient locations in O’Fallon and St. Peters, Missouri.

After earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, Dr. Melander completed an internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He went on to finish a sports medicine fellowship at the prestigious Methodist Sports Medicine Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Melander also served as a team fellow for the Indianapolis Colts football team as they earned the 2007 Super Bowl championship.

With extensive experience in arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Melander specializes in treating injuries in recreational and competitive athletes, including ankle pain, shoulder pain, and knee injuries. He provides comprehensive sports medicine care with a particular interest in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, and advanced arthroscopy of the shoulder, knee, and hip. He also treats workers’ compensation injuries and provides general orthopedic care.

Dr. Melander performs minimally invasive knee replacements and is trained in the Persona® personalized knee system by Zimmer Biomet. He also offers various nonsurgical treatment options for joint pain, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections.

As an endurance athlete himself, Dr. Melander knows how important it is for active people to get back to their normal routine quickly and safely. His approach focuses on helping his patients see the best in sports medicine. Outside of work, Dr. Melander is an avid marathoner and enjoys spending time with his family.
